wat is HR PRACTISES AND HR POLICIES ?

Posted on December 18th, 2009 by admin

As i am seeking a opeings in HR they usually ask me this questions?

HR Policy deals with writing down the intent with respect to different topics related to the employees (human resiurces) working in an organisation. It is made keeping in view the mission / vision of the company or the HR PHilosophy / Mission Vision statements…For example u may have a Transfer Policy that will govern or guide the transfers that will happen in the company, based on some strategic goal of the company… It is like the Directive Principles of our Constitution.

It is different from the HR Rules in that that it is not the law. So while a departmental inquiry can take place against an employee who breaks an HR Rule by staying on unauthorised absence indefinitely, deviations do occur in the HR Plicy, although only as an exception. For example, altho it might be a policy to transfer an employee in 5 years, if he so desires, he might extend his stay by 2 -3 years.

HR Practices, on the other hand deals with the implementation of not only the written down HR Rules and HR Policies, but also a host of other practices that are unwritten and have evolved over time. So it might be an HR Practice to send a birthday or an Anniversary Card from the HR Head’s side.

Hope this clarifies your doubts…all the best for ur upcoming interviews.

Human Resources has at least two meanings depending on context. SPELLING is critical, and most common within corporations and businesses, human resources refers to the individuals within the firm, and to the portion of the firm’s organization that deals with the hiring, firing, training, and other personnel issues.

An HR policy is a statement, usually a written one, that contains a company’s goal, or guiding principle such as "It is our policy to afford equal employment opportunity to all employees and applicants. XYZ corporation does not discriminate etc. etc."

A practice is what the company actually does, such as paying its employees each Friday.

Policies are often in writing and accompanied by procedures that should be followed to achieve the goal. For example, if it is our policy not to condone harassment on the job, the policy document will often contain procedures for reporting harassment if it occurs. Our practice is likely to be discipline or termination for people who violate the policy and procedures. Often, the policy will refer to the practices as well to give people fair notice of the consequences of a violation.

Here’s a link to some sample policies and procedures that will give you an idea what they look like. Hope this helps.
